In Round 5 the Lions had to travel to Berlin, but failed to get enough hungry Lions to Berlin. Only 12 brave Lions made the trip to Berlin and had to face a big Berlin squad, who put up a fantastic big ground on the Maifeld within sight of the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Just a big task for the 12 Lions, who got 3 players from Berlin to play a 15 a side match on this fantastic ground. Thanks to Boz, Jonas and Chris for fighting with us against their own team. In the 4 quarter, James replaced Menschi, who literally run his arse off.
First quarter: The Lions came out a little bit nervous with 4 AFLG-Firstgamers and found hardly into the match against confidend Crocs, who played good footy. The ball ran fast through their lines and they were allways with more numbers on the ball. After some fast goals by the Crocs the Lions got better into the game and fought hard for every meter on this big ground to defend their own goal. Now it was much more harder for the Crocs to score and a Behind by Coach Ant could be seen on the scoreboard for the Lions.
Second Quarter: Berlin came out like the first quarter, but the Lions fought back and showed their great fighting spirit with a lots of running against the outstanding opponend. Only 2 goals by Berlin and a behind by Phil Giesen found place on the scoreboard. The best quarter for the Lions was seen and could be heard in half time. Berlin Coach Troy Pedder was not amused by the play of his Crocs and the half time result of 41-2.
Third Quarter: After half time the Lions tried to hold the great intensity of the second quarter, but had to pay the price for their poor numbers in Berlin. The big ground seemed to get bigger and bigger every minute of the game. But the fighting spirit of every Lion was marvelous and the Crocs had to fight hard for every goal they scored.
Fourth Quarter: Bigger, bigger, bigger! The fantastic ground got bigger every second now and it seemed to be for one short moment, that the Cologne Dome appeared behind one goal. The Crocs used the big space well and even a big rainshower couldn´t stop their hunger for more goals. Unfortunately after 5 minutes Marcie tore the ligaments in his left foot and could not run anymore, but stayed on the ground like a pillar near the Crocs goal.
The game ended 111-2 for outstanding Crocs against hard fighting Lions. We made the game harder for Berlin than the result shows. Coach Ant Garland summarized the game accurately: "The score did not do justice to the game, as all players that were there gave their all, played hard and had nothing left in the tanks at the end of the game. We fought it out till the end which was great."
In the evening both teams met up in the Belushis and celebrated through the night. A miracle was performed by Schiko, Luke and Tim B.. Our three Drinketeers won the boat race! What a big miracle. Additional to this wonder the Lions won all prizes in the lottery. What a great night!
Player review:
Boz: Great game by the small man. He fought like a Lion and had a lots of fun in the game. Thanks for joining us.
Jonas: A very talented young player, who showed his good skills and fighting spirit. Thanks for joining us.
Chris: He ran a lot and had his hand often on the ball. Great game by the tall man. Thanks for joining us.
James: The australian came in for Menschi in the fourth quarter and showed his experience. Thanks for joining us.
Ant: Our coach was everywhere on the ground. Should have taken his wine present for himself. But our old man knew, that he would win the Jägermeister. Rooooaaar! And thanks for the Jägermeister...
BigBig Al: Great to have him back. Put his body in all the time and was hard to defend for the Crocs defenders. Tremendous game!
Menschi: Hurt his posterior while warming up, but played 3 quarters. That says all. Big Rooooaaaar!
Mick E: Rucked again and measured the whole ground. Great game by him as usual. But at night he was not allowed to go to the football table in the bar next door. His Irish opponent was suddenly a little bit to naked to play table football and missed the right handle.
Marcie: Showed, that a tackled falling overhead kick (Fallrückzieher) is possible. Pinballed through the center. Great game with an unlucky end. Got new tupperware after the trip.
Nik: Terrific to have him back. Worked hard all day in defence. Wonderful. Small minus: He could not catch the perfect tackled falling overhead kick to him.
Kevin: Great first game after only one training. A lot of good actions. A new young talent for the lions. Roooaaaar!
Matty: Our fireworker in making was hot all day and could be found in every pack. Great intensity and great voice on the trip back. Roaaaar!
Phil: The man from Colombian had a fantastic game. Without any training and sleep. What a incredible talent!
And now, the three Drinketeers:
Lukey: Marvelous game by our Captain. He was the anchor of our defence and showed a great intensity. His head made Marcie look like a unicorn. Got the wine bottle from Ant for this.
Tim B.: The best game ever seen from him. Great intensity, great tackles, great game. Was it really Tim? Yes, it was Tim.
Schiko: Put in his strong body all day and night. He made it hard for the Crocs to score. Awesome game. Lost tupperware on the trip. Has somebody seen it?
Rooooooooooooaaaaaaaar!
